Course Number PRDV 77729
Disruptive behaviors have a significant impact on the ability of teachers to effectively address the needs of all students. This course is designed to introduce educators to disruptive behavior disorders, to analyze how these disorders impact students in the classroom, and to focus on implementing multi-tiered interventions. Students will study the disorders classified as Behavior Disorders by the DSM 5 including Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Conduct Disorder (CD), ADHD, Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED) and Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD). Assessment practices and evidence-based intervention models which can be utilized to support families, target whole classrooms and individual students will be examined throughout the course. At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to design intervention strategies that will support students to be successful in the classroom. The content of this course aligns with the MA DESE’s core goals of creating a safe and supportive school climate that addressed the needs of all students.
