The Effects of Childhood Disorders on Personality Development

Enables participants to understand and assess the impact of several developmental disorders on the emerging personality of the child and on adolescent development. Participants will review theories of personality development of five current syndromes that affect personality development. Participants will learn how to differentiate psychopathology from similarly appearing behavior manifestations that are concomitants of developmental disorders and to develop appropriate treatment orientations.
Required Text: Child and Adolescent Development, Danuta Bukatko. (Houghton-Mifflin Co.) Questions found in text and on assignment page in Blackboard. Similar resources may be used to answer questions assigned. Diagnostic Standard Manual of Psychiatric Disorders (DSM IV) (just a few chapters)
