Participants will study and discuss the value of using global literature in their classrooms. Participants will also develop ways to incorporate global texts meaningfully and purposefully into their curriculum by researching a range of books from across the world and evaluating them for their cultural authenticity as well as analyzing racist or sexist attitudes in the literature.

As the United States population becomes increasingly diverse, students from grades K-12 benefit from learning about a variety of global cultures. When children and young adults see themselves in the characters of the books they are assigned to read, they become more engaged students. They also become more understanding of other cultures and are more likely to build connections with people of different backgrounds.
